The first night on the drop down bed I found I was too hot. Ian had had the heating on at 21 it transpires. We need it a lot cooler tonight I think. There was also some very heavy rain overnight, but who doesn’t love rain on a tent or caravan? Ian arose to see to Misty. I lazed in bed as I will be doing every morning. It was lovely outside with a great view over the Moray Firth. Ian also made the porridge for breakfast. I really am being spoiled.
The Moray Firth
Ian was a bit worried about the fresh water level. He couldn’t find the hose. He had searched high and low, removing everything from all the possible places. The garage, the water place, the inside cupboards, under the floor. He resorted to asking the woman at reception for a hose. She was horrified that Dicksons of Perth hadn’t given us one. In fact I feel that she will be dissing them to all and sundry. Then he phoned Big Dave. He was busy showing someone round but the lady assured us he would phone back. In the meantime off Ian popped to the shower block. Of course Big Dave phoned at that moment. ‘The hose?’ He questioned. ‘In the garage. 100%. I saw it yesterday when I was giving you the tour.’ ‘Ian says not, but I haven’t looked myself, and of course can’t reach to open it without him’. ‘Have another look’ said BD with confidence. As he returned from the shower a few hours later I passed on BDs message. ‘I have hunted high and low’ he bellowed, as he opened the garage. We both peered in to see a neatly coiled green garden hose.
Before we left we emptied our waste and filled up with water using a nice green hose. Our plan today was to end up in Golspie. We tootled along for a bit before deciding to stop in Dornoch for lunch. Unfortunately Dornoch can’t feed anyone on a Tuesday so we carried on to the Fleet nature reserve. We were very glad we did as we had a fab view, and there were a load of seals on an island.
We carried on to Dunrobin castle, and leaving Misty in the car had a good look round. We came across a museum in the grounds where all the Duke of Sutherlands animal heads from his and his wife’s safari were housed. Very un PC.
Back in Golspie we found our allotted camp site. Just us on it as it’s not amazing, but it does have electric and is in the right place. There is also a Great chippie in Golspie apparently, so we walked down into town, about half a mile, to get some. Ian got talking to an American guy from ‘DC’ who is over here to play golf and once had a Newfoundland that shed hair in clumps. Golspie is not a hotbed of nightlife in fact the only pub, just over the road from the chippie was closed. However we found a nice picnic table by the sea to eat our chips at in the dark, and a NISA to buy a cheap bottle of Merlot from. Back at the site we found two new neighbours, the quiet type. The TV reception was good here too so we were able to watch the footy while drinking our cheap Merlot
Good to see you have managed to continue your blog. Hope your further travels go well.
